Atkins and Cain inducted into York RLFC Hall of Fame

York RLFC are delighted to announce that Club legends Garry Atkins and Mark Cain have been inducted into our Hall of Fame!

Atkins played 144 times for York between across three decades, in stint from 1986 to 1990, 1993 to 1994 and in 2000.

The half-back and centre was part of the York sides which recorded successive fourth-placed finishes in the Second Division in 1988/89 and 1989/90, the Club's highest league placings between 1986 and 2018.

Cain meanwhile made 207 appearances for York across three spells (1995-2000, 2000 and 2003-2006) scoring 78 tries, 18 goals and nine drop-goals.

No player has made more appearances or scored more tries for York during the sport's summer era than Cain, who earned the Heritage Number 1376.

Both Atkins and Cain have been chosen as the latest members of the York RLFC Hall of Fame by a Committee consisting of Knights Supporters Society members, former players and journalists.

The pair will be officially inducted on Friday 19th January at Merchant Adventurers' Hall at York RLFC's 2024 Hall of Fame Dinner, proudly sponsored by City Cruises, Purple Chilli Events Catering Specialists and Master Debonair, with tickets available to purchase now by clicking HERE!

Atkins said of his addition to the Hall of Fame: "York has always been my Club and I always felt such a pride to play for York, so to be picked in the Hall of Fame is really humbling, especially given some of the names in there.

"My debut for York was against Dewsbury and I was put down as 'A. Nother'! I was just in awe of playing for York because it was my club as a boy and I was in the same team that I'd watched the year before from the terraces.

"We had some good teams at York and there was some really good camaraderie among the lads - I still see a lot of them now as ex-players."

On his induction into the York RLFC Hall of Fame, Cain said: "I feel really privileged. There's some fantastic players that are in there, so it's a massive privilege to be held in that regard.

"This Club is a massive part of my life. When I tell my children that I used to play down here, sometimes they don't believe me! They get excited and I bring them to watch the matches every week.

"Being around the Club, there's such a great atmosphere and you can tell that things are really going in the right direction."
