Bass signs new deal!

York City Knights are pleased to announce that utility back Jason Bass has signed a new deal with the club for the 2021 campaign.

24-year-old Bass joined the Knights for our return to the Betfred Championship in 2019 after playing in excess of sixty matches for Coventry Bears and, in his first season with the Knights, quickly established himself as both a regular and consistent player in the team. Featuring at centre, winger and full-back, Bass’ utility value saw him make twenty-five Befred Championship appearances for the club in 2019, scoring eight tries. His first tries for the club came in February 2019 when he scored a hat-trick against Barrow Raiders in a 56-0 victory.

2020 saw Bass appear in four of the Knights competitive matches, scoring each of his three tries in our final match before the curtailed season, a 70-12 victory over Rochdale Hornets in the Coral Challenge Cup.

Of Bass’ retention, head coach James Ford said: “Jason has impressed everyone at the club with his drive to be better. He joined us from Coventry and has developed into a very promising outside back.

Paying testament to Bass’ worth ethic, Ford added “it’s a pleasure to coach someone who takes so much responsibility for his own development.

“Jason is a real handful for our opponents with his footwork and power, often winning us ruck speed and penalties. He also has plenty of skill to go alongside those physical qualities.

“Jason will face some stiff competition for a spot in our seventeen, but I’m confident he’ll rise to the challenge and continue to improve.”

Bass himself added: “I’m delighted to be re-signing for next year. I have loved my time so far at York and I’m just happy that it gets to continue.

“There isn’t anywhere else I would want to be right now. The club has a great feel to it from the playing group the coaching and support staff, all the way through to the fans. With the new stadium and facilities coming to top it off, it’s an exciting time to be a Knight.”

The signing of Bass takes the Knights 2021 announced roster to 17: Ryan Atkins, Daniel Barcoe, Jason Bass, Kriss Brining, Chris Clarkson, Ronan Dixon, Harry Dodd, Will Jubb, Danny Kirmond, Matty Marsh, Tyme Nikau, Liam Salter, Morgan Smith, Marcus Stock, Jack Teanby, Danny Washbrook & Perry Whiteley.
