York City Knights are pleased to confirm that winger Joe Brown has signed a new one-year deal with the Club, thanks to the support of Squad Builder.
Brown, 23, joined the Knights ahead of this season and, in his first year with the Club, he has made 28 appearances so far in all competitions, scoring seventeen tries in the process.
The former Bradford man has formed a potent right edge pairing with James Glover, the pair scoring thirty tries between them, and Brown’s consistency has seen him miss just two matches in all competitions.
On retaining Brown, Head Coach James Ford said: “I’m really pleased to be able to retain one of our stronger performers this season in Joe. I think he has had some very good moments for us this season, as well as some strong games.
“His work-rate in backfield has been strong all season as well as being good under kick pressure. He’s also finished off some great tries for us at pivotal moments during this season.
“Joe is still a young man in his early twenties and we feel that, as we continue to challenge him to improve areas of his game, Browny will rise to that challenge and have a better 2023 for us.”
Brown himself added: “I’m really happy to be staying. I’ve really enjoyed this season and I feel that my game has really kicked on.
“I’m looking forward to more of the same next year.
“My relationship with Fordy is really good and he’s really brought my game on throughout the season. He’s been into me every week to help me get better at stuff and I can only see more progression and development as we work more together.
Discussing the wing-centre partnership he has developed with Glover, he added: “It’s a great partnership, isn’t it? Glover has been class to play with and over the year we’ve built up a good relationship – I’m looking forward to more of that, as well.
Paying testament to the York supporters after his first season with the Club, Brown said: “The fans have been ace all year and it felt like we let them down a few weeks ago at Leigh. For the fanbase to stick with us after a result like that really shows what kind of fans they are and we’re really lucky to have them.”
Tickets and travel are both available now for Sunday’s Betfred Championship Semi-Final against Leigh Centurions. Full information can be found HERE.
