York RLFC is delighted to announce that club legend, Darren Callaghan has been inducted into our Hall of Fame!
A product of community club York Acorn, Callaghan (heritage number #1388) made a total of 137 appearances for York.
He was named on the bench for one game for the Wasps in 1996 before becoming a regular between 1999 and 2000.
He then played for the Knights from 2003 to 2005. Overall, he scored 41 tries, 10 goals and 5 drop goals.
Initially starting as a half back, he later moved into the centres and the second-row.
Callgahan became one of the first players to sign for York City Knights when the club formed out of the ashes of York Wasps in 2002.
He was part of the squad that won National League 2 in 2005 to earn promotion.
Callaghan has been chosen as the latest member of the York RLFC Hall of Fame by a committee consisting of Knights Supporters Society members, former players and journalists.
He will be officially inducted on Friday 17th January at Merchant Adventurers' Hall at York RLFC's 2025 Hall of Fame Dinner.
On Callaghan's induction into the York RLFC Hall of Fame, his former team mate and Hall of Fame member, Mark Cain said: "He had full commitment. It meant everything to him as a player.
"It's a pleasure to have him on board. I'm chuffed to bits for him, he deserves it. He still continues to put that energy into community rugby now."
The York RLFC Hall of Fame was launched in 2013 by the Knights Supporters Society (KSS) to celebrate the storied history of rugby league in York following the Club’s formation in 1868.
Currently there are 26 players inducted in the York RLFC Hall of Fame, including legends such as Geoff Pryce, Graham Steadman and Willie Hargreaves.
Hall of Fame is a York RLFC event with the support of the Knights Supporters Society, and we work in partnership to continue our journey of celebrating the club’s heritage and history.
Tickets for the 2025 York RLFC Hall of Fame Dinner are priced at £45 and include a three-course meal.
