Featherstone Rovers v York Knights - Match Preview

🤝 York RLFC Match Previews are proudly sponsored by David Lloyd York!

York Knights will be seeking their first victory away to Featherstone Rovers since 2006 when the two sides clash at the Millennium Stadium on Sunday (3pm).

York have not tasted victory at Featherstone since a 22-16 success in the 2006 National League Cup, with Jimmy Elston, Scott Rhodes, John Smith and James Ward on the scoresheet that afternoon.

The Knights have since fallen short in their following nine visits to Featherstone, although they head into this weekend as arguably the form side between the pair.

Three wins from their last four matches have seen York move up to ninth in the Betfred Championship table, trailing sixth-placed Featherstone, who occupy the final Play-Off place, by just four points.

Seven tries were scored in a dominant 40-18 win over Halifax Panthers midway through last month before the Knights delivered a sensational comeback from 22-0 down to beat Swinton Lions 30-22 at Heywood Road.

York were narrowly beaten 22-18 by third-placed Widnes Vikings at the start of the month but delivered a perfect response by thrashing bottom club Dewsbury Rams 40-0 at the FLAIR Stadium, securing their biggest victory of the season and nilling an opposition for the first time since March 2023.

Featherstone meanwhile find themselves on a three-match losing run in the Betfred Championship, the side’s most difficult run of league form since 2018.

Rovers fell to a 25-12 defeat at Barrow Raiders at the end of last month inspired by an Andrew Bulman double before a late penalty goal from Dec Patton saw Swinton Lions claim a thrilling 42-40 victory at the Millennium Stadium.

Following the Betfred Challenge Cup Final break, Fev suffered another narrow loss, going down 18-16 at Sheffield Eagles after a 77th-minute try from ex-Rovers man Kris Welham.

Those results have left Fev sixth in the Betfred Championship table after 11 league matches, holding a two-point lead over nearest challengers for the Play-Offs Batley Bulldogs.

Featherstone had won their previous five contests prior to that between mid-April and late-May, toppling Doncaster (4-46), Widnes Vikings (32-24), Whitehaven (24-28), Halifax Panthers (36-16) and Dewsbury Rams (12-46).
