York Valkyrie’s Georgie Hetherington has been named as the 2024 Woman of Steel!
The full-back, who also played at hooker in the Betfred Women's Super League Grand Final win over St.Helens, is the third York player to win the award in consecutive years.
She follows Tara-Jane Stanley who won in 2022 and Sinead Peach in 2023.
The Valkyrie became the first club to retain the Betfred Women’s Super League title with an 18-8 Grand Final victory over St Helens on Sunday, in a game where Hetherington was named Player of the Match.
On picking up the award, Hetherington said: “I couldn’t be here doing what I’m doing if it wasn’t for the great support I have at home and from my coaches.
“I’m flying the flag for the mums! After coming back from having a baby I didn’t think I’d be able to come back at this level.”
