York Valkyrie got off to a strong start in the Betfred Women’s Challenge Cup, beating Huddersfield Giants 56-0 in their group game at Laund Hill.
The Valkyrie scored 11 tries, including a hat-trick from Eboni Partington and a brace each for Jazz Rampton and Tamzin Renouf, while keeping a clean sheet against their Super League rivals.
There were also tries for Ellie Williamson on her debut, and captain, Sinead Peach on her return to the side after a season out while she was pregnant.
A win next week against Featherstone Rovers will see York progress through to the knock out stages of the competition.
The Valkyrie opened the scoring after just four minutes, with Williamson scoring on her first appearance in York colours. She went on to add six conversions in the game, to finish with a personal points tally of 16.
Further first half tries came from Partington, Jazz Rampton, Rhiannion Marshall and Peach, who scored while Huddersfield were down to just 12 players, following Bethan Oates’ sin binning for a late challenge.
After building a 32-0 half time lead, York continued to dominate after the break, and ran in five more tries. Partington completed her hat-trick, Renouf scored twice, Rampton got a second on her debut, and Savannah Andrade completed the rout.
Alongside Williamson and Rampton, Demi Fisher also made her debut from the bench, and added further options for the team moving forward.
