York Valkyrie returned to winning ways in the Betfred Women’s Super League after thrashing Huddersfield Giants 50-12 at Laund Hill.

Emma Kershaw bagged a hat-trick for York while debutant Izzy Brennan and Eboni Partington registered doubles in the 10-try rout.

Carrie Roberts, Jess Sharp and Bettie Lambert also went over the whitewash for the Valkyrie, who delivered an emphatic response after back-to-back defeats to Leeds Rhinos and St Helens.

York went ahead inside the opening dozen minutes when Kershaw spun over from dummy-half in the right corner, with Carrie Roberts landing the conversion, her first of five goals from 10 attempts.

Partington joined Kershaw across the whitewash midway through the first half as the England international finished off a shift play to the left corner.

Roberts then crossed down the same edge after a clever wrap-around play between Lucy Eastwood and Lacey Owen.

A cleverly-worked scrum play put Kershaw over for her second before debutant Brennan crashed over from a Remi Wilton drop-off pass.

The Valkyrie grabbed a sixth try before half time when Sharp barged under the sticks, leaving the visitors 32-0 ahead at the break.

Lindsay Anfield’s side picked up from where they left off after the break as Kershaw stepped back against the grain to cross for her hat-trick.

The scorer then turned assister when she threw a tremendous cut-out pass for Partington to complete her brace.

Huddersfield then registered their first points of the afternoon when Hobbs touched down Frankie Townend’s offload close to the tryline. Townend added the conversion. 

But normal service quickly resumed when Lambert slid over from Sade Rihari’s miss-out ball to the right flank and Brennan crashed over for her second.

The Giants managed a second consolation try when Hannah Goddard dotted down Townend’s kick to the left corner, with the half-back once more converting.
