York Knights begin their Betfred Challenge Cup campaign against Keighley Cougars on Sunday at Cougar Park (3pm)!
At stake is a third round tie against last seasonâs Super League Grand Finalists Hull KR, who will travel to the winners of this match next weekend.
After last weekendâs warm-up game in Amsterdam, itâs also the first chance this season to see the Knights on home soil!
Both York and Keighley go into the game after wins last weekend in pre-season games. York beat Hull KR 26-12 in the Amsterdam Challenge, while Keighley eased past a young Bradford side, 44-22.
The Knights will face a Cougars side who just missed out on promotion back to the Championship at the first time of asking last season, after their relegation in 2023.
Jake Websterâs side finished second in League 1, but lost in the play-off final, 20-6 to Hunslet.
They boast a squad with experience, with former New Zealand international centre, Junior Saâu named as captain for this year, with the long serving, Dan Parker and former Bradford hooker, George Flannagan as vice-captains.
Former Sheffield half-back, Izaac Farrell takes the number 6 shirt, which is being worn for the first time in 10 years, after it was retired following the death of Danny Jones. The logo of the Danny Jones Defibrillator Fund will be worn on the back in his memory.
York coach, Mark Applegarth, will be looking for his side to build on the form shown in last weekâs match in Amsterdam, which was their first run out of the year.
However, Kieran Hudson and Brad Ward wonât feature after both picked up hamstring injuries in the game against Rovers.
