Key Partner Blog - Fortus Business Advisors and Accountants

York RLFC are delighted to be partnered with Fortus Business Advisors and Accountants for the 2023 season.

Fortus are one of the most innovative organisations in the Business Advice and Accountancy sector and their drive, motivation and ambition are in close alignment with the brand values and vision of York RLFC.

Fortus have expressed their delight at entering into a Key Partnership that “extends far beyond a traditional ‘sponsorship deal’” with York RLFC.

Our Key Partner have outlined the strength of their relationship with York RLFC in continuing to support fellow ambitious organisations…

At Fortus, we are building on our local community support in the North, where we provide sound financial advice and accountancy solutions to hundreds of business owners, including those within the sports and entertainment industry.

NATIONAL COVERAGE, LOCAL PRIDE

Whilst we operate on a national scale, our Northern presence is especially prominent with experienced and growing multi-disciplinary teams based in York, Scarborough and Leeds.

Equinox House York, Manor Court Scarborough and One Park Row Leeds are home to over 60 accounting and business advisory specialists with technical skill and wide-ranging experience across a broad spectrum of financial matters.

We’re continuing to support ambitious business owners but we also recognise the importance of aiding local communities in and around our office locations, making worthwhile contributions wherever possible.

Our established partnership with York Knights and York Valkyrie, extends far beyond a traditional ‘sponsorship deal’.

Craig Herbert, Executive Director at Fortus, enthused: “Our North-based teams show an undeniable amount of pride in our cities and their local communities.

“Since kicking off our Key Partner collaboration with York RLFC in 2022, we’ve been hugely invested in what it means for us as a business, the Club, its players, and supporters.

“Like us, York RLFC is an ambitious and entrepreneurial business with plans to not only compete at the highest level, but to support the local communities in and around York.

“We consider this city as a cornerstone of the Fortus business, alongside Scarborough and Leeds, where we champion the growth go-getters.

“As business advisors, we understand the power of entrepreneurialism. Chairman Clint Goodchild and the rest of the team at York RLFC have a lot in common with the businesses we work with and we’re confident that together we’ll help them achieve their goals for the future.”

York RLFC Chairman Clint Goodchild recalled: “When I took over the club, I outlined some strong ambitions, one of which was to take the team to the Super League - a goal I stand by.

“However, to achieve such ambitions it’s important to have the right, for want of a better phrase, team behind the team.

“Having Fortus onboard as a Key Partner will help us deliver upon not just our ambitions within the men’s game, but also the women’s game, where last year we made it to the Betfred Women’s Super League Grand Final and won the League Leaders’ Shield.”

CHAMPIONING WOMEN’S RUGBY LEAGUE

2023 marks a significant era for Women’s Rugby League following a display of some incredible performances in the autumn's World Cup.

It was a Rugby League World Cup tournament to remember, catapulting the women’s game into the international spotlight with viewing figures into the millions and record-breaking attendances.

Even though the Betfred Women’s Super League is less than 10-years-old, it has seen a meteoric rise and the landscape of the game is changing for the better.

As main Shirt Sponsor for York Knights as well as an official Corporate Partner of York Valkyrie, the Fortus team is anticipating an exciting season ahead.

The 2023 Betfred Women’s Super League kicks off with Leeds Rhinos hosting York Valkyrie as part of a double-header at Headingley Stadium with the men’s team on Easter Sunday, April 9th.

The Betfred Women’s Super League is certainly in the spotlight, as are player salaries.

Goodchild stated: “We are proud to be one of the first Clubs to commit to paying our female players from the 2023 season. It is great recognition for their continued efforts as professional players.

“But this is just the first step. There’s going to be ongoing increases, given how quickly the National Women’s Rugby League (NRLW) has taken off in Australia.

“Our players don’t have to retire due to income, they can reach their potential as players as long as they can sustain their fitness.

“Our partners, including Fortus, are crucial to us in building on the commercial viability and popularity of the women’s game.”

Herbert added: “It is evident that Clint and the team at York RLFC value the contribution of women to rugby league through activating a paid structure from the 2023 season.

“These professionals are getting the appreciation, credit, and financial reward they deserve.

“It’s also fantastic to see a path being set for the next generation to pick up a rugby ball, follow in their favourite player’s footsteps and one day, achieve their dream of playing in the Women’s Super League.

“It’s for these reasons, and many others, we’re proud to be a key partner along this transformational journey.”
