New Coach Education series to launch

York RLFC Foundation is excited to announce a new initiative designed to support the development of local community coaches.

The series of workshops is open to all coaches across York and North Yorkshire, and will be launched in February 2025 at York St.John University Sports Park. This series will include three additional workshops throughout the year, which will be hosted at each of the three local junior community clubs: York Acorn, Heworth, and New Earswick All Blacks.

The scheme focuses on engaging community clubs, to help foster cohesion in rugby league and encourage the personal development of coaches.

The workshops will be led by York RLFC Head of Rugby Development, Andrew Henderson and supported by York RLFC Foundation Delivery manager, Adam Prentis.

Henderson said: “I am very excited about the opportunity to engage with and support our local coaches in their personal development. We have four workshops planned for 2025 which if it goes well, we could look to build on for 2026.

“The plan is to host the first one at a central venue and then take the following workshops out to deliver them at all three of our local junior community clubs to their respective coaches. I have met with and spoken to club representatives from New Earswick All Blacks, Heworth and York Acorn who are all on board with supporting this programme.

“At the end of the workshop series, we can take feedback from all coaches at each of the clubs, review it and perhaps look to tailor workshops in 2026 to what they feel they need.

“Our aim here is to share ideas, offer support and guidance to help our local coaches progress. Ultimately, we want our coaches to have a positive impact on developing the players they are working with. Many of these coaches will play a big part in shaping the players of the future to be identified to join our performance pathways squads and one day be future stars of our Knights and Valkyrie teams.”

Adam Prentis, York RLFC Foundation Delivery Manager said:

“At the start of the year, we announced a number of courses and workshops to support individuals in the sport, as well as up-skill new volunteers and teachers. This new announcement adds an additional level of support led by Andrew.”

The first session of the Coach Education series will take place on Monday 17th February (6.30pm-8pm) at York St.John University Sports Park.
