Warrington Wolves v York Valkyrie - Match Preview

đŸ€ York RLFC Match Previews are proudly partnered by David Lloyd York!

York Valkyrie will be seeking to move a step closer to an historic retention of the League Leaders’ Shield in the Betfred Women’s Super League (BWSL) when they visit Warrington Wolves on Sunday (2pm).

York maintained their unbeaten run in the BWLS with a 18-8 victory away to twice and reigning Betfred Women’s Challenge Cup winners St Helens at the Totally Wicked Stadium on Friday night.

The Valkyrie came from 8-0 behind to take a valuable two points against their nearest rivals for the Shield thanks to tries from Lacey Owen, Liv Gale and Tara Jane Stanley.

The victory moved Lindsay Anfield’s side five points clear of St Helens at the top of the BWSL with three rounds remaining, although the Saints still have one match in hand.

Should the Valkyrie pick up the League Leaders’ Shield (LLS), having done so in 2022, they would become the first side in BWSL history to retain the LLS.

A trip to Victoria Park awaits for York this weekend, with the Valkyrie hoping to extend their run without defeat in the league in 2023 to eight matches.

The Valkyrie take on a Warrington side that have taken five points from their first seven contests following promotion from the BWSL Group Two last season.

Warrington earned a creditable 22-22 draw with last year’s BWSL Play-Off Semi-Finalists Wigan Warriors in round one before claiming two victories over bottom club Huddersfield Giants - winning 32-24 at Huddersfield Laund Hill and 26-20 at Victoria Park.

The Wolves have however found life far more difficult against the division’s top three: York, St Helens and Leeds Rhinos.

Leeds dispatched Warrington 80-0 at Victoria Park back in April while St Helens came away with a 6-60 rout to their name last month.

Last time York and Warrington met was in May at the LNER Community Stadium as part of the Summer Bash, with the Valkyrie coming away with a 44-4 victory, thanks to braces Liv Whitehead and Stanley as well as Sinead Peach, Tamzin Renouf, Rhiannion Marshall and Georgie Hetherington scores.

York Valkyrie will be seeking to move a step closer to retaining their League Leaders' Shield in the Betfred Women's Super League when they visit Warrington Wolves on Sunday (2pm) at Victoria Park.

Tickets are priced at ÂŁ5 for Adults and ÂŁ2 for Concessions and Juniors and can be purchased on-the-gate at Victoria Park.
