York Knights return to the LNER Community Stadium on Sunday for their AB Sundecks 1895 Cup quarter final against Widnes Vikings (3pm)!
The Knights go into the game on the back of two wins on the road in the Betfred Championship, against Batley Bulldogs and Barrow Raiders.
York reached this stage of the competition after a 32-20 win over Halifax a month ago. Tries from Levi Edwards, Sam Cook, Jack Potter, Jesse Dee, Taylor Pemberton and Kieran Buchanan saw the Knights earn their place in the draw.
Widnes have started the year well, winning three of their opening four league game. Their only defeat was a 28-20 loss at Batley Bulldogs. They sit in 6th place in the table, two points and two places above the Knights.
Allan Colemanâs side won through to the quarter finals after a narrow 28-26 win at Hunslet Hawks in the previous round. Matty Roberts (2), Max Fleming, Rhys Williams and Matty Fozzard all got on the scoresheet that day.
The Vikings have appeared in one final so far, finishing as runner-up to Sheffield Eagles in the inaugural competition in 2019.
Itâs been four years since they last reached the semi-finals, losing 24-18 to Featherstone Rovers. That was the year Rovers went on to beat York 41-34 in the final at Wembley.
In contrast, York were beaten semi-finalists in the last two seasons, losing 28-18 to Sheffield Eagles last year, and 22-8 to Batley Bulldogs the year before.
