York Knights are aiming for more points in the Betfred Championship when they face Widnes Vikings on Sunday at the LNER Community Stadium (3pm)!

The game is being played as part of a double header, with York Valkyrie playing Leigh Leopards in the Betfred Women’s Challenge Cup quarter-final at 12pm.

It’s only three weeks since the Knights last met the Vikings, with York winning 39-6 to progress to the AB Sundecks 1895 Cup semi-finals.

Since then, York have beaten Doncaster 66-0 in the league, before ending a four match winning run with a 24-22 defeat at Featherstone Rovers on Good Friday.

Widnes have lost 37-12 at home to Barrow, before a hard-fought 10-10 draw at home to Oldham over Easter, when they came from 10 points behind to earn a point.

Coupled with victories so far this year over Toulouse Olympique (18-14), Sheffield Eagles (10-8) and Doncaster (26-22), that point sees Widnes sit sixth in the table, one place and one point above York.

With just one win in the last six games, Vikings coach, Allan Coleman will be keen to get his team back in the form they showed at the start of the season, when they won five consecutive games across all competitions.

York coach, Mark Applegarth wants his side to put their Good Friday defeat behind them and claim another two points at home and move above Widnes in the table.

Last year in the league, the two sides battled it out in two close games, with Widnes winning 22-18 at York in June, before the Knights edged it 12-6 at Widnes in September.

The Knights then beat Widnes 27-10 at the LNER Community Stadium in the Elimination play off match, with tries from Joe Law, Jesse Dee and a hat-trick from Tom Lineham, to progress to the semi-finals.
