York RLFC clean up at 2023 York Sports Awards

York RLFC took home six awards across multiple categories at the 2023 York Sports Awards at the York Racecourse.

The evening saw over 100 finalists nominated for 17 awards in the biggest York Sports Awards yet.

York Valkyrie won the Performance Team / Club of the Year Award after last year winning a first League Leaders' Shield in the Betfred Women's Super League, claiming the inaugural Women's Nines and reaching the BWSL Grand Final for the first time.

Valkyrie Director of Rugby Lindsay Anfield won the Coach of the Year Award after leading her side to those historic achievements.

Tara Jane Stanley picked up the Senior Sportswoman of the Year Award, having become the first Valkyrie player to win the Woman of Steel in 2022.

York Knights winger AJ Towse, who was last year nominated for the Betfred Championship Young Player of the Year in a breakthrough 12 months, won the Student Sportsperson of the Year.

York RLFC Learning Disability Team star Kian James won the Young Disability Sportsperson of the Year. The long-serving LDRL star has matured into one of the side's senior players, with his commitment and effort routinely praised by Foundation staff.

Dawn Shore, a Coach at the York RLFC Foundation and local community club New Earswick All Blacks, took home the Volunteer of the Year Award.

York Knights loose forward Jordan Thompson, 2022's Player of the Year, was Highly Commended in the Senior Sportsperson of the Year category while former York Valkyrie Co-Captain Katie Langan, who retired during the off-season, was also Highly Commended in the Outstanding Contribution Award.
