York Valkyrie ended their regular home games in the Betfred Womenâs Super League with a nine try display against Huddersfield Giants.
The Valkyrie grew more dominant as the game progressed to clinch another two points as they push for a home tie in the play-offs.
Eboni Partington and Tara-Jane Stanley both scored a brace as the Valkyrie moved level on points in the table with third place Wigan Warriors.
The Valkyrie started strongly, and got off the mark after just eleven minutes when Eboni Partington went in at the corner from a Tara-Jane Stanley pass. Stanleyâs touchline conversion attempt hit the post.Â
A Megan Pakulis break then put the Valkyrie in a good position and Liv Wood was on hand to crash over from short range. Stanley added the goal.Â
Stanley then showed some mazy footwork to step through the defence from half way and score to the right of the posts. Her conversion gave York a 16-0 lead after 20 minutes.Â
Huddersfield got off the mark through Amelia Brown, who joined the line at pace to find space out wide. Ellie Thompson missed the conversion.Â
York soon hit back through Stanley who bounced around the defence to weave her way through from 20 metres out before adding the goal. Â
With two minutes to go to the break, York scored again. Carrie Roberts was too strong for the attempted Huddersfield tacklers. Stanley could not add the extras from the touchline.Â
York got the perfect start to the second half when Megan Pakulis charged over and Stanleyâs conversion extended the lead to 28 points.Â
Emma Kershaw followed that with a try in the corner after Stanley combined with Tamzin Renouf on her return from injury.Â
Renouf got on the scoresheet herself when she managed to spin out of the grasp of the defenders behind the line to get the ball down.Â
The tries kept coming as Partington found her way over in the corner again as York shipped the ball from right to left with Lisa Parker providing the final pass. Stanley found the target from the touchline to add the extra points.Â
Huddersfield kept battling and were rewarded when Chloe Fairbank crashed over from close range with just three minutes of the game remaining.Â
